St. Thomas College of Arts and Science organised an impactful “Anti-Drug and Cyber Crime Awareness for Next Gen” programme on 10 September 2026 at 10.00 a.m., to raise awareness among students about the dangers of drug abuse, cyber crimes, and the importance of responsible digital citizenship.
The programme was graced by Dr. A. Amalraj IPS, Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police, as the Chief Guest. The distinguished police delegates included Thiru. C. Kapil Saratkar IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police, North (Law and Order); Tmt. Disha Mittal IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, West (Law and Order); and Thiru. Uttam Kunal Shrote IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).
The programme was attended by the College Secretary, Principal, Vice Principal, Shift-II Coordinator, faculty members and students, reflecting the institution’s commitment to the safety, security and holistic development of the student community.
The eminent police officials addressed the students on the serious consequences of drug abuse and addiction, while also highlighting the growing threats posed by cybercrimes, online fraud, cyberbullying, identity theft and irresponsible use of digital platforms. The sessions emphasised the need for students to remain vigilant, make informed choices and adopt safe and responsible digital practices.
Adding an engaging dimension to the awareness programme, International Award-Winning Magician Dhaya presented an entertaining and thought-provoking performance that connected the themes of awareness, decision-making and responsible behaviour with the interests of the younger generation.
The interaction with police officials gave students valuable insights into real-world challenges and encouraged them to become responsible citizens who can help build a drug-free, cyber-safe, and socially responsible society.
The programme served as a meaningful initiative to empower the Next Gen with knowledge, awareness, and the confidence to make safe and responsible choices in both the real and digital worlds.
