About IKS
The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS)
refers to the vast and diverse body of knowledge that developed in the Indian
subcontinent over thousands of years. The IKS serves as a bridge between
ancient Indian pedagogical traditions and modern multidisciplinary education,
in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It encompasses disciplines such as
philosophy, science and mathematics, arts and governance, integrating both
theoretical understanding and practical application. Rooted in ancient texts
like the Vedas and Upanishads, the IKS reflects a holistic worldview that
connects the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of life by promoting and
preserving the vast heritage of Indian knowledge.
Objectives of IKS in STC
The IKS Cell at St. Thomas College
of Arts and Science integrates Indian Knowledge Systems through specialised
seminars, curriculum-linked workshops, and conferences dedicated to documenting
Tamil Nadu’s local traditions and oral histories. The Cell facilitates
immersive experiential learning by hosting competitions, exhibitions, and field
visits to historical sites. Through these vibrant platforms, students of St
Thomas College move beyond standard curricula to rediscover the roots of Indian
brilliance, equipping them with a heritage-grounded perspective within a
globalised context.
